Plant-based empty capsules for customers who want to encapsulate suitable powdered ingredients without using animal-derived gelatin. Each two-piece capsule is made from hypromellose vegetable cellulose and water.

The larger size 00 format is useful for powders that require more space than a standard size 0 capsule.

BEST FOR

Preparing small batches of appropriately measured powdered vitamins, minerals, herbs or other ingredients under professional guidance. Empty capsules can also make strongly flavoured powders easier to take.

These capsules do not contain a supplement or medication. The safety and effectiveness of a finished capsule depend entirely on what is placed inside it and how accurately the contents are measured.

HOW TO USE THEM

Separate the capsule body from the cap, fill the longer section with the measured powder and press the two sections together until securely closed. A capsule-filling tray may improve consistency when preparing multiple capsules.

Depending on the density and fineness of the powder, each size 00 capsule can hold approximately 546–1,092 mg. Many common vitamin and mineral powders fill at approximately 700–900 mg per capsule.

Volume is not the same as weight. Always use an accurate milligram scale when a specific dose is required; do not estimate the dose by capsule size, teaspoons or visual fullness.

SAFETY CAUTIONS

Do not use empty capsules to reproduce, divide or alter prescription medication unless a pharmacist or prescriber has provided explicit instructions.

Crushing or opening extended-release, delayed-release, enteric-coated, hazardous or narrow-therapeutic-index medication can cause serious harm.

Do not fill capsules with essential oils, water, tinctures or other liquids. The shell is intended primarily for dry powders and may soften, leak or dissolve when exposed to moisture.

Before encapsulating a supplement, confirm:

• The ingredient is appropriate for oral use

• The intended dose is safe and accurately weighed

• The powder does not require special handling or protective equipment

• It does not interact with medications or medical conditions

• The prepared capsules can be identified and stored safely

Prepare only a manageable quantity at one time and label the container with every ingredient, the amount per capsule and the preparation date. Never place an unidentified homemade capsule into a supplement or medication bottle.

Capsules present a choking risk. Swallow with sufficient water and keep them securely away from children and pets.

STORAGE

Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from humidity, direct sunlight and strong odours. Handle capsules with clean, dry hands because moisture can soften or deform the cellulose shell.

Discard capsules that have become brittle, sticky, misshapen, discoloured or contaminated.
