WHY WE STOCK IT
A comprehensive prenatal multivitamin and mineral formula for women preparing for pregnancy, pregnant women and those who are breastfeeding. The two-capsule daily dose provides 1 mg of active folate, 27 mg of iron, 150 mcg of iodine and other nutrients that support maternal health and fetal development.
When taken daily beginning at least three months before conception and during early pregnancy, the folate helps reduce the risk of neural-tube defects. The iron helps prevent iron-deficiency anemia and associated tiredness and fatigue.
BEST FOR
Women looking for a vegan prenatal with active L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, methylcobalamin, iron bisglycinate and beta-carotene rather than preformed retinol.
This prenatal does not contain DHA or EPA. It provides 100 mg of choline daily, which is only part of the choline needed during pregnancy. Diet and, when appropriate, separate choline and omega-3 supplementation should be reviewed with a healthcare professional.
HOW TO TAKE IT
Women: Take 2 capsules daily with a meal, a few hours before or after other medications or natural health products, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
The capsules may be divided between two meals if taking both together causes nausea. At the labelled dose, 120 capsules provide a 60-day supply.
For neural-tube-defect risk reduction, begin taking an appropriate prenatal folate supplement at least three months before conception and continue during early pregnancy.
MEDICATION AND SAFETY CAUTIONS
Take this product at least four hours apart from levothyroxine. Its iron, calcium and magnesium can reduce thyroid-medication absorption.
Separate it by several hours from tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics and bisphosphonate medications. Ask our pharmacist for a personalized schedule if you take prescription medicine.
Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you:
- Take warfarin or another blood thinner
- Have a history of non-melanoma skin cancer
- Have thyroid disease or use thyroid medication
- Have an iron-storage disorder, significant anemia, kidney disease or another medical condition
- Are carrying multiples or have been advised to use a higher folic-acid dose
Vitamin K may affect warfarin therapy. Iodine requirements also require individualized review in women with thyroid disease.
Do not combine this product with another prenatal, multivitamin, iron supplement or high-dose vitamin A product unless advised by a healthcare professional. Excessive intake of certain nutrients during pregnancy can be harmful.
Iron may cause nausea, constipation, abdominal discomfort or dark stools. Taking the capsules with food may improve tolerance. Stop use if an allergic reaction occurs.
Keep securely out of reach of children. The iron in this package can seriously harm a child if accidentally swallowed. Contact a poison-control centre immediately after a suspected overdose.
