WHY WE STOCK IT
A neutral-tasting MCT oil made entirely from organic coconut oil. It contains a 60:40 blend of caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10), without palm oil or added flavours.
MCTs are rapidly absorbed fats that can be converted into ketones and used as an energy source. This oil is suitable for people following ketogenic or lower-carbohydrate eating patterns, but it can also be used as a conventional dietary fat.
BEST FOR
Adding an easy-to-measure source of MCTs to coffee, smoothies, yogurt, oatmeal, salad dressings, sauces or other unheated foods.
MCT oil is calorie-dense and is not a proven stand-alone weight-loss or cognitive treatment. Its effect depends on how it fits into the person’s overall diet and energy intake.
HOW TO USE IT
Begin with 1 teaspoon or 5 mL daily with food. Increase gradually according to tolerance, up to 1 tablespoon or 15 mL one to three times daily if desired.
Starting with a full tablespoon may cause digestive discomfort. Divide larger daily amounts between meals rather than consuming them all at once.
Use it in cold or gently warmed foods. The manufacturer does not recommend it for frying or other high-temperature cooking.
MEDICATION AND SAFETY CAUTIONS
Too much MCT oil—particularly when first introduced—can cause nausea, stomach cramping, bloating, urgency, loose stools or diarrhea. Reduce the amount or stop use if these effects occur.
MCT oil provides concentrated calories and saturated fat. Replacing another dietary fat with MCT oil is different from simply adding it to the diet. People managing elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease or weight concerns should consider their total fat and calorie intake.
Ask a healthcare professional before regular use if you have diabetes, liver disease, a fat-metabolism disorder, pancreatic disease, significant digestive disease or difficulty absorbing fats.
People taking an SGLT2 inhibitor for diabetes—such as empagliflozin, dapagliflozin or canagliflozin—should not begin a strict ketogenic diet or use MCT oil specifically to increase ketones without medical guidance because of the risk of ketoacidosis.
MCT oil is not a replacement for glucose during hypoglycemia, prescribed medication or an evidence-based treatment for dementia, epilepsy or another medical condition. Therapeutic ketogenic diets require professional supervision.
