WHY WE STOCK IT
A comprehensive iron formula providing 11 mg of bovine-sourced heme iron per capsule, together with vitamin C, active folate and methylcobalamin vitamin B12. It helps form red blood cells, supports energy metabolism and contributes to normal early fetal development.
 
Heme iron is generally absorbed differently from plant-based non-heme iron and may be better tolerated by some people who experience digestive discomfort with conventional iron supplements.
 
BEST FOR
Adults with confirmed low iron levels or increased iron requirements who have difficulty tolerating non-heme iron. The formula may also be considered during pregnancy when recommended by a healthcare professional.
 
Fatigue, hair loss, shortness of breath and restless legs are not specific to iron deficiency. Ideally, iron supplementation should be guided by bloodwork such as a complete blood count and ferritin level rather than symptoms alone.
 
HOW TO TAKE IT
Adults 19 years and older: Take 1 capsule daily with food, a few hours before or after medications or other natural health products.
 
At the labelled dose, 60 capsules provide a 60-day supply.
 
Each capsule already supplies 400 mcg of folate. CanPrev advises consulting a healthcare practitioner to determine whether additional folate is appropriate, particularly before or during pregnancy.
 
MEDICATION AND SAFETY CAUTIONS
Do not use if you are allergic to bovine products. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if you have:
Hemochromatosis or another iron-overload condition
Anemia that has not been confirmed as iron deficiency
Repeated blood transfusions
A peptic ulcer, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or another significant gastrointestinal condition
Pregnancy or breastfeeding questions requiring individualized iron or folate dosing
 
Ask our pharmacist before combining it with a multivitamin, prenatal vitamin or another iron-containing product. Excess iron can be harmful, and long-term use should be monitored with appropriate bloodwork.
 
Iron may reduce the absorption of levothyroxine, levodopa, penicillamine and certain antibiotics, including tetracyclines, quinolones and cefdinir. Take this product a few hours apart from medications and ask our pharmacist for a medication-specific schedule. Consult a healthcare practitioner before use if taking methyldopa.
 
Possible effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, stomach upset or abdominal cramping. Iron may darken stools; this is generally harmless, but black, tarry or bloody stools—especially with pain, weakness or dizziness—require medical assessment.
 
Tell healthcare and laboratory personnel that you take iron because it may interfere with certain tests, including some tests for blood in the stool. Stop use if an allergic reaction occurs.
 
Keep securely out of reach of children. An accidental iron overdose can cause serious or fatal poisoning. Contact a poison centre immediately if a child may have swallowed this product, even if no symptoms are present.

NON-MEDICINAL AND ALLERGEN INFORMATION
Hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and rice-bran oil.
The capsule shell is vegetable-based, but the heme iron is derived from bovine red blood cells. The complete product is not vegetarian or vegan and should be avoided by anyone with an allergy to bovine products.
 
CanPrev labels this product free from gluten, dairy, soy, wheat, yeast, sugar, artificial colours, artificial flavours and preservatives.
 
STORAGE
Store tightly closed at room temperature, away from moisture and out of children’s sight and reach. Do not use if the safety seal is broken.
